Offering prospective SNR calculation derived from prescribed slices, the SNR Calculator reportedly facilitates a higher degree of accuracy with quantitative SNR values beyond that of calculators from device manufacturers.

ScanLab has launched a new Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) Calculator, which may offer key advantages over SNR calculators provided by MRI system manufacturers.

MRI manufacturer-provided calculators can be plagued by partial calculations and measurements as well as an inability to provide real-time assessment of tissue composition within the imaging slice, according to ScanLab. The company maintained its SNR Calculator offers quantitative SNR values through prospective SNR calculations originating from prescribed slices.

With the capability of estimating SNR outcomes prior to obtaining the MRI scan, ScanLab said its SNR Calculator enables one to evaluate parameter changes and protocol variations to help ensure an optimal balance between scan time and image quality.

“Accurate SNR modeling is a crucial step toward advancing MRI education and clinical practice, because it has never been done accurately before,” said Matthew Hayes, the president and creator of ScanLabMR. “We believe every user should have access to this level of insight without worrying about whether they can afford it. That’s why we’re including the SNR Calculator in all existing licenses at no extra charge. Our mission is to give MRI professionals the tools they need to take ownership of image optimization and deliver the highest quality of care.”
