Digital x-ray developer Swissray International will install a ddRCombi system next month in one of the North Shore University Hospitals in Manhasset, NY. This will be the first U.S. installation of the versatile x-ray unit, introduced at the 1999 RSNA meeting, which is aimed at emergency rooms.

According to Ueli Laupper, CEO of Swissray America, the company has now sold three of the $300,000 to $400,000 units. One has been installed at St. Anna Hospital in Lucerne, Switzerland, and the other will be installed in Vassar Brothers Hospital in Poughkeepsie, NY.

"We think this is a very short time (to have sold three units) since RSNA in November," Laupper said.

The ddRCombi is a multifunctional system available in three configurations that can perform examinations with patients in seated, upright, or recumbent positions. It may be combined with a ceiling suspension unit.
