Japanese medical imaging vendor Shimadzu has become the latest MRI vendor to settle patent litigation with Fonar of Melville, NY. The two companies last month announced their settlement regarding Fonar's multiple-angle oblique (MAO) patent. Shimadzu agreed to pay Fonar royalties in exchange for receiving a license to the technology covered by the patent. The companies declined to release the amount of the payments. Fonar has also settled litigation with Toshiba, Hitachi, Philips, and Siemens, and won a jury verdict over GE.
