General Motors and Medscape have agreed to collaborate on a three-year program that will provide handheld computers to approximately 5000 physicians who treat GM employees. GM will sponsor the distribution of the Palm OS-based PDAs, which physicians will use to prescribe drugs through Medscape Mobile software and to access patients' digital health records stored on Medscape's Logician system. In return, GM will receive warrants for five million shares of Medscape stock, and the two companies will share in the savings from prescription claims. Medscape claims more than 11,000 clinician users for Logician, which houses more than 16 million patient records.
