Trex Medical of Danbury, CT, announced last week that it plans to acquire Trophy Radiologie, a French manufacturer of dental and medical x-ray imaging systems. The agreement would give Trex an entrée into the dental market and would also expand the company's international distribution channels.
Trophy is a 52-year-old company that had revenues of $70 million for its 1997 fiscal year (end-August). The company claims to be the world's largest manufacturer of dental x-ray systems, including digital products.
Trex believes it can incorporate its digital technology into Trophy dental systems, and will also be able to use Trophy's medical imaging distribution system outside the U.S. For example, Trophy has been active in the Asian market for nearly 20 years. The acquisition requires regulatory and shareholder approvals.
