Image processing vendor Vital Images has entered into a joint venture with Medtronic Surgical Navigation Technologies. Under the agreement, Vital Images' advanced visualization technology will be integrated into Medtronic SNT's image-guided surgery products. The two companies will also collaborate on new surgical planning software and service offerings. In late December, Vital Images released the latest version of its flagship processing software, Vitrea 2, which converts 2D image data into 3D navigable images for use in disease screening, clinical diagnosis, and therapy planning. The just-released Version 2.6 includes improved quality, reliability, and usability features.
