Time was of the essence for Amicas at Lakeland Regional Health System in St. Joseph, MI, where the company installed a Web-based PACS in less than 45 days. Lakeland, a three-hospital system with 389 acute beds, 44 subacute beds, and 253 long-term beds, will use the company's PACS to archive, distribute, and retrieve approximately 75,000 digital imaging procedures annually, with volume increasing as the hospital system expands its clinical capabilities. Lakeland's need for PACS emerged with the planning of a digital ambulatory surgical center, complete with multidetector CT. Due to the timing of the ambulatory facility's construction, Lakeland required a PACS installation in less than 90 days, according to Amicas. Of the 13 modalities initially connected to the PACS, seven are located at the new ambulatory facility.
