Vital Images names new CEO

Visualization software developer Vital Images has appointed Albert Emola as president and CEO. Emola takes over from chairman Douglas Pihl, who has been interim president and CEO of the Minneapolis-based firm since Andrew Weiss resigned in early 1998. Emola, who was also elected to the company’s board of directors, has held key positions at a number of healthcare and medical device companies over the past 15 years. Since January 1999 he served as a management consultant to several medical-device start-ups, where he was responsible for creating business and operating plans, financing, licensing, and technology transfer strategies.
