Visualization software developer Vital Images has appointed Albert Emola as president and CEO. Emola takes over from chairman Douglas Pihl, who has been interim president and CEO of the Minneapolis-based firm since Andrew Weiss resigned in early 1998. Emola, who was also elected to the companys board of directors, has held key positions at a number of healthcare and medical device companies over the past 15 years. Since January 1999 he served as a management consultant to several medical-device start-ups, where he was responsible for creating business and operating plans, financing, licensing, and technology transfer strategies.
