The Siemens Oncology Care Systems Group won California Governor Gray Davis’ 1999 Quality Award for Overall Excellence for its work in oncology. This award recognizes overall excellence in all business areas, including management, marketplace, workplace, and community. The Oncology Care Systems Group, based in Concord, CA, was founded in 1974. It manufactures and develops radiation therapy products for the worldwide oncology market. The group has brought intensity-modulated radiation therapy (IMRT) to smaller clinics across the U.S. IMRT is usually found in large hospitals. This treatment delivers complex doses of radiation to tumors while minimizing the effect on surrounding tissue.
