Researchers using MRI and computer modeling techniques are closing in on these origins and are using imaging to chart biochemical changes that might trigger anatomic changes that produce pain.

Speed will continue to be an issue as companies attack motion artifacts accompanying scans as one means to extend clinical capability. Efforts will focus on making results more reproducible and less dependent on the skill of operators.
Siemens develops palm-size ultrasound scanner
December 6th 2006In 2007, Siemens Medical Solutions plans to introduce what could be the market's smallest handheld ultrasound system. The company selectively demonstrated the palm-sized, Blackberry-like device at the 2006 RSNA meeting, typical treatment for a new product or a work-in-progress.
